We only work with the best brands to ensure quality every time. If you've read many of my articles, you know that I frequent a very good friend's gun shop. My friend Dwayne occasionally lends me used guns to write about - he's one of the good guys. He had a Glock Gen 3 Glock 20 in 10mm holster for a while. Since I was writing about the Colt Delta Elite 10mm that another good friend, Marty, lent me, I asked Dwayne if he would mind me taking it and shooting it on camera and in the backyard. I thought the more 10mm products the better. Being generous, he said no problem. That's why I'm writing about the Gen 3 10mm... it's been there waiting to be highlighted here. Another interesting note - Dwayne said the previous owner told him the gun had never been fired. So I have a brand new Gen 3 Glock 20 to review - it's just technically "used". It is important to remember that the third generation Glock 20 is still available from new gun dealers. Before we get into that, let's take a look at Glock handguns in general.
In another article I wrote about Glock pistols, I compared them to a Chevrolet Impala. I had one of these a million years ago when I was in high school, a 1964 model. It was, in a word, reliable. It wasn't flashy or flashy, but it always got me where I was going. To me at least, the clocks are like a Chevy Impala - not very fancy and flashy, but they work. This shouldn't be a knock... I loved the car. Also, there is something to be said for function over form, especially in the firearms world.
The 10 Best Concealed Carry Handguns Of The Past 20 Years
Before we dive into the topic at hand, a little more about the Glock generations.
When we talk about the Gen 2 Glock vs. Gen 3, then many non-glocks don't know what that means. If you don't like Glocks, you probably don't know the difference between generations. Here is a quick background on the different generations of Glock that I wrote for this article. Check it out and you'll see how Gen 4 differs from Gen 2, 3 or 5. For some people it makes a big difference if the gun is Gen 2, 3, etc., while others really don't care. The bottom line is that Glock has been trying to keep up with the changing gun market over the years and trying to make their guns more user friendly. An example of this is the finger grooves that were introduced on Gen 3 Glocks when they debuted in 1998. Some people loved them because their hands were the right size for the slots and their fingers went where the Glock designers told them to go. On the other hand (pun intended), others with larger or smaller hands had different postures. Some big/small handers have sanded down the grooves on the grips of their Glocks. When the Gen 5 Glocks came out in August 2017, the finger grooves were conspicuously absent. As for me, I can go either way. My hands are probably the size the Glock engineers had in mind when they designed the grooves.
I can hear some of your wheels turning in your head...you might be thinking "Why pick up a 3rd gen Glock again? We're up to 5th gen!". Yes, there are, but not all Glocks are. As of this writing, there are only six Gen 5 Glocks, and the 20 is not included. The newest Glock 20 is a Gen 4. Yes, there are differences, but in general you will still see Gen 3 Glocks for sale. Some differences between the Gen 3 and Gen 4 that are immediately noticeable are the Gen 4 RTF grip (rough textured finish), replaceable clasps, and a right-angle rotary mechanism that the Gen 3 doesn't have. But if you're not a glockophile, you might not notice much difference between the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glock 20 at first glance.
There are a lot of Gen 3 guns out there... Not too long ago I had a Glock 30 Gen 3, a compact double chambered .45 ACP. So this is a description of how Gen 3 weapons are still viable and available. If nothing else, I can express my impressions of the gun. As I just said, I own exactly one Glock, so I can't be accused of being too biased against this brand. I also wanted to compare the 10mm recoil to what I felt shooting the Delta Elite 1911…it was pretty nimble. I wanted to see if what I had read was true or if a polymer framed gun would help absorb the recoil.

So if you're in my situation, where you're maybe thinking about a 10mm and at least neutral about Glocks, hopefully this article will help you decide if it might be in your future. Glock isn't the only one with a 10mm polymer frame... the other one with a flexible 10mm polymer frame is the Springfield XD(M), in a double barrel. I would also like to get one of these as I have a compact XD(M) in .45. I love this platform. There is even a complete and compact Tanfoglio/EAA Witness 10mm made with a polymer frame. 10 mm with polyframe is gaining popularity. But the Glock 20 was the first to be made and was introduced in 1991. So you can continue. Let's take a look at Glock's popularity (or lack thereof) and a little history of the company.

I feel like Gaston Glock pistols are either universally loved or… I hesitate to use the word “hated” but some people are mad at the brand. Regardless of where you stand on the matter, you have to admit that Herr Glock has built a formidable force when it comes to the acceptance of his pistols. It is estimated (latest numbers I can find) that about 65% of police departments in the US use some type of Glock pistol. This number is for domestic police units only... The number of military and police organizations around the world that use Glocks would probably leave us speechless. That would be a wonderful number. So, how and why have Gaston products gained such favor? Let's turn to a brief history of the brand.
In the early 1980s, Gaston Glock ran an Austrian company that made a variety of items - none of which were firearms. However, he had a fairly advanced knowledge of synthetic polymers and other manufacturing processes. He heard that the Austrian military wanted to adopt a new pistol. Mr. Glock knew next to nothing about gun design...he just knew that Austria was looking for something new and he wanted to be a part of it. In 1980, the Austrian Ministry of Defense announced the creation of a new pistol. They listed 17 requirements that the new weapon must meet. Some of them included:
